With reelection efforts on the horizon, President Donald Trump’s electability is being called into question by both Republicans and Democrats alike. Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, recently questioned Trump’s electability against a Democratic candidate such as Joe Biden, raising important questions in terms of potential outcomes for the 2020 presidential election.
When asked directly if he thought the President was a viable candidate, DeSantis responded that he was undecided but pointed out that Biden had obtained the majority of the Democratic Party’s support and therefore had the edge. He also noted that “all of the polls are showing a tight race in Florida.”
This isn’t the first time Republicans have voiced their concerns about Trump’s electability. In February, Former Ohio Governor John Kasich suggested that Trump was in trouble in a general election due to his penchant for divisiveness. Kasich also cited Biden’s widespread support within the Democratic Party as a major factor in the likes of Trump’s potential defeat.
Trump’s presumptive Democratic challenger former Vice President Joe Biden certainly appears to be leading in the polls, where most agree that Trump performing poorly in comparison to his potential opponent. In response to Kasich’s comments, a Trump campaign spokesperson fired back, stating that the President “will have the full and unwavering support of the Republican Party behind him.”
It is no secret that the 2020election is an important one with the fate of the country at stake. While both sides agree that Trump and Biden will be the two main competitors, Numerica’s poll analysis shows that the former Vice President appears to have the advantage.
The only way to know who will win the election is by patiently waiting for the results, but Governor DeSantis’ comments about Trump’s electability are a good indication of the shape of things to come. For now, it is up to the individual voter to decide who will be the most suitable candidate for the job.
No matter who ends up winning the election, one thing is for certain: the 2020election will be remembered in the annals of history.
